random thankfulness

August 19, 2010

I’ve been really moved lately by some wonderful blog post’s by other photographers. So, I figured why not join the bandwagon and write a little “random” post myself?

Sometimes it’s easy for photographers to lack contentment with their work. Striving to be better is great! However, when you begin imitating or trying too hard to be like someone else, you can easily lose the real creativity that comes purely from an idea organically popping in your head. Getting that feeling that say’s, “I have to try that”! So today I encourage all my readers, in every avenue of your life, and especially for you photographers, to become confident and comfortable with your work and style, at any level. When you take a picture or take on a new project, be thankful that God has given you this gift, and no one else.

“For I know the plans I have for you,”declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. -Jeremiah 29:11

The Lord knows us, so personally and intimately…and even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. -Matthew 10:30

Let’s all encourage one another today, for the gifts God has given us, being content and loving each and every person for their unique and special gifts.

A couple things I’m thankful for today…

  • my 2 beautiful sweet babies, and my amazing husband (that loves me even if we have PB&J for dinner)
  • photographs on my wall (I just did a collage last evening of our family photos taken in May) and getting to see them each time I walk downstairs
  • Jesus’ love and acceptance everyday, even when I feel “unworthy”
  • people I pass on the roadways, smiling or someone walking who waves
  • popcorn, movies, and snuggling with my hubby
  • God’s gift for photography, and blessing me enough to have a camera

This is when it all started – with my trusty ‘ole Canon Rebel. I love all that’s happening in this picture from my parents farm in the background to my husband’s headlight of his motorcycle.

A big thanks to my blog proof reader, Travis Whitmore (aka:husband) who helps me become a better speller with each new post, ha!

What are you thankful for today? Blessing on your Thursday!

smith mountain lake | serenity

August 14, 2010

This past week I spent a week with my family – a long overdue vacation! The past two summers I’ve been pregnant, so it was quite relaxing being able to kick back, sip coffee, with not a worry in the world (and eat Cheetos for lunch if I wanted, ha)! We made so many fun memories, and as I was browsing all the pictures I took today, there were SO many, and I felt it was best to just share a few of my absolute favorites (so I don’t go overboard) No pun intended – ha! Enjoy!

This cracks me up – she’s just now starting to really interact with Miles (she felt the need to help wash his head apparently)

She totally looks up to her older cousin!

Miles started pulling up!

My two handsome boys…

butterflies | God’s beauty

August 4, 2010

God’s beauty surrounds us everywhere. It is especially evident here in the Shenandoah Valley! Love the butterflies and how delicate they are, landing on a branch or twig as if they are weightless (I guess they practically are)!

I’ve unfortunately had to reschedule a couple shoots lately due to rain, little ones having falls, etc. I wanted to leave you with a couple pictures of butterflies I took at a shoot a couple weeks ago!

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” -Genesis 1:26

Blessings on your Wednesday!
